Basic Design for Mechanical in SolidWorks Engineer
Job Description
Duties:
3D Parametric Modelling & Large Assembly Management: Use SolidWorks to design, model, and maintain complex 3D parametric parts, surface models, top-down and bottom-up assemblies, and sub-assemblies while guaranteeing strong design intent, parent-child relationships, and quick rebuild performance.
Sheet Metal, Weldments, and Moulded Part Design: Produce structural weldment frameworks with cut lists, injection-molded components with appropriate draft angles, uniform wall thickness, and rib designs, and production-ready sheet metal parts with precise bend allowances and k-factors.
2D Blueprint Drafting & GD&T Application: Using SolidWorks Drawing tools, create comprehensive 2D manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, and section views in complete accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, including tolerance callouts, weld symbols, and surface finish symbols.
Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFM/DFA) & FEA Validation: Run static structural and modal simulations in SolidWorks Simulation to verify factor of safety margins; perform DFM/DFA reviews to optimise parts for CNC machining, sheet metal bending, casting, and manual/automated assembly.
SolidWorks PDM, ECO, and Bill of Materials (BOM) Management: Process Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECN) with stringent revision control; build and manage multi-level Bills of Materials (BOM) connected to ERP systems; check in/out files and manage lifecycle states inside SolidWorks PDM.
Focus Skills:
Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, design configurations, equations, global variables, and display states.
SolidWorks PDM & Data Management Capabilities: Practical knowledge in using SolidWorks PDM for file relationship tracking, workflow approvals, version/revision control, and vault management.
Engineering Drawings, GD&T & Tolerance Stack-Up: Expertise in reading intricate blueprints, determining fit classes, performing 1D/2D tolerance stack-up studies, and applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T regulations.
Production Procedures and Simulation Familiarity: Solid awareness of common manufacturing activities and basic FEA stress/strain analysis using SolidWorks Simulation.
