  Job Description:

  The VMC Setter executes tooling setups, workpiece clamping, work coordinate system (WCS) offsets, tool height setting, and initial part clearance on 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis Vertical Machining Centers (VMC). This role ensures minimal setup changeover times, precise dimensional accuracy (GD&T compliance), tool wear monitoring, and continuous shop-floor machining efficiency.

   

  Key Duties:

  Fastener Setting and Tightening: Align, adjust, and tighten fasteners, vises, and rotary tables on VMC tables using dial gauges, edge gauges, and torque tools.

  Tools and Offsets: Select and load a cutting tool (end mill, drill, tap, end mill) from the tool magazine, measure the tool height/radius, and enter the original G code/M code offset settings (G54 to G59, G43). Dry runs and trial programs: Perform dry runs, integral program checks, and feedhold verification to avoid machine collisions and tool breakage during initial part setup.

  Initial inspection and in-process quality control: Measure initial test components using precision instrumentation (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges) to ensure initial part clearance.

  Setup Analytics & Tool Life Tracking: Record setup changeover times, tool insert wear/breakage logs, machining downtime causes, and production target variations in daily tracking spreadsheets.
